Google Pagerank Update

Labels: , ,

Google's Matt Cutts broke the news a few days ago on his blog Located Here that we should be noticing the next PR update on our Google tool bar. It seems the Google tool bar is showing the fresh page ranks for all websites at this time.

My social bookmarking website LiveWire News is only two months old but increased from no rank to pr3. Several inner pages increased from no rank to pr1. I did not aggressively build backlinks to the website for a few different reasons. Number one it's a new site, so I wanted to build links slowly as to hopefully avoid the Google sandbox if possible. Two, links look more organic when built slowly over time versus just obtaining thousands of links in a matter of days. Regardless, I can't complain about this update.

I'm interested to see how the updated pagerank affected you and your projects. Did your pagerank increase, stay the same, or decrease? What types of promotion and link building did you focus on?

Thanks for letting us know about the new PageRank results.

It's hard to know what exactly to do to improve PageRank since Google uses about 500 million variables in determining it.

But here a couple of quotes from Google that may help:

"Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results."

"PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value."

Interesting post Linda. Listed are some excellent quotes made by Google related to PageRank. Even though the pagerank was just updated to the end users, google updates pagerank on a ongoing basis internally.

Hi there.

My pagerank went up from 0 to 3 after 4 months of hard work on my first and new blog.

I initially started by submitting to blog directories, and contacting blogs requesting for link exchanges.

Later, joining entrecard gave me a traffic boost and contributed to the development of my blog with a supportive community of bloggers.

Later, i started focusing on making comments on "do-follow" blogs.

I certainly hope that getting a new page rank will make it easier to do link exchanges in the future.

I love listening to post about social bookmarking as I am a big user of these and every group has their a listers/whiners.

What I have found though Is the majority of them come down to how active and relevant you are in your community. Sometimes its luck with diggs and stumbles, other times its skill like a really good ad design for your 125 banner ad display.

If you like entrecard, give spot, banner exchange, beer widgets, and the publicity wheel a try, I use others too. In addition I am helping start a new social club but that is neither here nor there.

Anyways back to the page rank, congratulations, my question to you is how heavily do you place importance on page rank? Me I place none, since I still get good google traffic without a page rank.

I don't believe all the 'hype' given to pagerank. I do though find it valuable to those earning their money through advertising versus actual product. I have seen websites with pr0 rank in the top 5 in the search engines quite often, so just because one doesn't have a high pagerank doesn't mean they won't rank high in the Google search engine.

What do you think?

I agree that to truly maximize the potential from the top social bookmarking websites such as stumbleupon and digg you must become an active member of the community and build a network of mutual friends, preferably those that share similar interests to what your sharing.

Google states that their page rankings do not determine where you are in search results. I found that having a blog on Blogspot really helped where I was in search results and my page rank. It seems they prefer the blogs on a domain they own. This is exactly why I have mine on Blogspot. Unfortunately they spanked me and dropped my page rank because I do some paid blogging. I am not about to stop though because no matter what they do to my page rank I still have traffic and make money.

Well my PageRank has increased from 1 to 4 :)

Not too sure whether it affects anything, but I hope it can bring more search engines traffic to my blog.

Some people say having a higher PageRank affects it, some say it doesn't.

But I guess, it will definitely have an effect on advertisers (+your Alexa Rank) who want to advertise on your blog/site!

For the LONGEST time, my main Seminar List site had a PR0.

After awhile, I stopped checking.

Probably around the beginning of this year, I did a random check and wow, I had PR2.

More recently, I checked on it and it is PR3 where it sits now (as of this writing!).

I have checked a few other sites I believe to have more visitors than my site so I don't think that is the main factor.

I've been noticing that my tightly focused site seems to have a better shot at a better 'ranking' and I monitor Alexa more than PR tho Alexa has become less relevant I think. Who Knows?

The sites I know are getting all that traffic yet ranking less well than my site are also ALL OVER THE MAP when it comes to the content they present.

I can't really tell if they are participating in many other social networking sites.

I know that I do some of that and that I leave comments periodically and sometimes they even count as a 'link back' to my site.

I can only pin down the topic as a factor in my favor and my site is pretty tightly focused.

It's worth testing out more.

back again, i saw your contest at entrecards, you should add a addthis.com to your post to make it easier for everyone from all social communities to stumble, digg etc your stuff, just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions Butter. It's sad I run a social bookmarking website yet I don't even have the favicons to add my posts to them. I just started this blog a few weeks ago, so I will use that as my excuse :-D

Most of my sites stayed the same this time around. Looks like I need to build more links. But really if you are watching your stats, you don't have to worry too much about PageRank. Just build links and traffic and PageRank will eventually come along for the ride.

Yeah - recognized that - the Larry Page Rank got updated once more and good old Matt finally found something to write about....
Do you have a clou what he meant with that sentence - Quote:
"I’m expecting that also in the next few days that we’ll be expiring some older penalties on websites."

What language is that and what in god's name is the guy trying to say??
Great! And well worth mentioning.:-)

Google has once again updated their search engine algorithm and Page Rank on November 2009. This has caused great joy for many webmasters, while others are scrambling to find out what happened to their websites page rank.

PageRank was introduced by Google in 1998 and after more than a decade, they have a lot more things, including the PR, in their search algorithm to rank the webpages.

Even if your site's relevance, authority and Google search results have improved, it may take a lot longer for your PageRank to increase. For example, Rand Fishkin, CEO of SEO company SEOMoz, suggests that it can take as much as 11 months for a change to filter through. Nonetheless, some sites may see a change in as little as 30 days. This is based in part on when Google decides to update PageRank, which appears to follow no set schedule.
